Last January, Xiaomi divided the Redmi brand of low-budget smartphones to make them independent. Since then, the brand has launched several smartphones and expanded its presence to other product groups.
Now, Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi is doing the same with its Poco sub-brand. Xiaomi India’s Managing Director and Global Vice President Manu Kumar Jain have announced today that Poco will now become an independent brand.
Since the announcement was made by Manu Kumar Jain, CEO of Xiaomi India, the brand seems to focus only on the Indian market, at least for the time being. This can be further confirmed by the presence of the brand online, with the new Twitter tag being @IndiaPOCO, while the website is poco.in.
Manu Jain made this announcement through a tweet in which he said: “Excited to share: #POCO will now be an independent brand! What started as a sub-brand within Xiaomi, has grown into its own identity. POCO F1 was an incredibly popular phone. We feel the time is right to let POCO operate on its own. Join me in wishing @IndiaPOCO all the best.”
After Poco F1, however, the company did not launch any other smartphones in the market. There were several reports and rumors that Xiaomi was working on the next Poco smartphone, but nothing happened. Then there was a rumor that the company would close the Poco unit because it had launched a Redmi K20 line in India that was placed in a segment similar to the Poco line.
Poco is announced as an independent brand a few days after the reports of Poco F2 smartphone are going to release soon. The company’s trademark registration for Poco F2 appeared online a few days ago, and a new Xioami smartphone called Poco X2 was recently discovered in Geeketch.
While we are not sure which Poco smartphones will be launched, we hope that the next generation of Poco smartphones will not be far from official, because rumors and leaks are increasing over the new Poco smartphone and the announcement of the brand is ready.
